Our Reports
One of REAP’s core objectives is contributing to the broader skills and knowledge base of the PSET student preparation and support sector. This has entailed a range of research reports, symposia and conference presentations over many years. This work also identifies overarching issues affecting all students which can be points of advocacy for systemic reform. We are also a founding member and active participant in the National Bursary Support Providers’ Forum nationalbursaryforum.org.za, which also contributes to this research.

This report celebrates 25 years of the Rural Education Access Programme (REAP) and explores its impact on students from disadvantaged rural communities. Through alumni research and personal stories, it demonstrates how education has transformed lives, careers and communities.
Research Report
Preparing learners for life after school: Reviewing REAP’s Post-School Readiness Programme.
- in the Free State in Dealesville and Ikgomotseng (in the area around the Letsatsi Solar Park); and
- in the Northern Cape in Postmasburg and Danielskuil (in the area around the Lesedi Solar Park).
The purpose of the PSRP is to assist learners to prepare for suitable post-school futures – particularly to attend university or college. The research entailed reviewing the Programme:
- to assess the services offered and consider others;
- to identify any initial effects it may have had on learners’ access to post-school education; and
- to project the possible future reach and influences of the Programme.
- Guidance re subject choice for Grade 9 learners.
- Services the PSRP offers.
- Effectiveness and efficiency of psychometric assessment.
- Remedial career guidance for those not in PSET.
- Additional assessment support for placement of special needs learners.
- Past matriculants outcomes.
- Projections of access to university and TVET, following three years’ school results.
- Parental buy-in.
- Engagement with schools and district education stakeholders.
- Other organisations who offer post-school readiness programmes in these schools.
REAP then duplicated this research process in the Letsatsi area.
